Water Matters is a champion for watershed conservation in Alberta. To
address what we see as some of the key issues in water management in Alberta,
Water Matters will aim to:
- Advance a comprehensive strategy toward integrated land and
water management and protection that is supported by regional planning
legislation and the integration of the Water
for Life strategy and the Land
Use Framework;
- Advance a vision for protecting Alberta's "source waters"
(particularly on the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains) for the
protection of drinking water in downstream communities;
- Increase awareness (through reports, conferences,
presentations, press releases) of the current state of Alberta's
watersheds;
- Advance specific recommendations to secure the successful
adoption and implementation of watershed management plans in every river
basin in Alberta;
- Support strong water conservation efforts by major
water-using sectors;
- Call attention to the current and projected impacts of
climate change on water supply and promote the need to adopt watershed
protection strategies in response to these impacts;
- Work with Albertans to draw attention to practices that
harm watersheds and promote tools that will reduce or eliminate their
impacts.
